DC03: Identification of specific materials in 19th-20th century-stained glass by non-invasive techniques
Objectives
  • Develop a non-invasive protocol (by preference using portable equipment) to identify specific glass formulations (boron-based enamels, selenium, uranium) and mechanical stress.
  • Characterise glass technologies (bulk materials, glass staining, grisaille painting, enamel coating) in uncorroded pieces using portable methods, ideally integrated within a single analytical workflow.
  • To define the limits of detection for Se and U applying p-XRF.
Expected results
  • A validated identification protocol for specific 19th–20th century stained-glass materials. Contribution to conservation strategies for inherently unstable glass types (e.g. Tiffany glass).
