Glass-Care schools & workshops

The consortium-level research-focused training program begins with a one-week introductory school and is supplemented by 6 advanced thematic schools and hands-on workshops (ATs). Each DC participates in at least 2 of these workshops, selected according to the specific requirements of their PhD project.

* Each DC attends this school which is organised at UNL premises (Lisboa/Portugal)

* During this one-week event, the DCs receive a basic introduction to all topics essential for a successful project outcome

* The school provides students also with insights on the Advanced schools and hands-on workshop Training as well as practical information on administrative aspects

* A visit to the UNL/NOVA glass production workshop and to Sintra is on the agenda

* As a first presentation exercise, students introduce their projects to the consortium

  • School hosted by UNL trains students in creating model-glass samples
  • School organised by UGE, focuses on training students in biofilm growth on model glasses
  • School organised by the French partners (UPEC/UGE/CNRS) focusing on glass alteration studies
  • School hosted by the Norwegian partners (NTNU/SPEK) teaching colour and spectral imaging
  • School hosted by the Greek partners (FORTH, UoC) to train students in photoacoustics
  • Belgian/Polish/Dutch partners train students in the use of portable analytical devices (UAntwerp/VUB/AVA) and advanced techniques such as ptychographic microscopy (VUB) and multimodal tomography (WUT), complemented by courses in advanced image processing and ML (UAntwerp/VUB/WUT)

* Towards the end of the project, a 'Glass-Care Conference' is held in Brussels

* This international three-day event is open to the wider scientific and professional community

* All Glass-Care students have equal opportunities to present their research activities and findings through oral and poster presentations, as well as participate in round-table discussions

* The conference serves as a key platform to disseminate research results, showcase innovative and best practices for the conservation community and stimulate the exchange of ideas on pathways towards future impacts

* All DCs will contribute to the organization of this event
