DC01: All-in-one portable device setting for glass and paint analysis with a focus on iron detection
Objectives
  • Establish a standardised, non-invasive measurement protocol that combines UV-Vis-NIR, p-XRF and Raman spectroscopy.
  • Characterise glass technologies (bulk materials, glass staining, grisaille painting, enamel coating) in uncorroded pieces using portable methods, ideally integrated within a single analytical workflow.
  • The work of DC02 complements this work by focusing on overlay and bulk-coloured glasses.
Expected results
  • A validated, practical protocol for conservators to determine initial compositional classification of the base glass as well as insights into the types of silver-staining, grisaille paints and enamel coatings applied. Calibration benchmarks between invasive and non-invasive methods.
